The Parkway Animal Hospital staff treats your pet like one of the family. As all staff members are pet owners themselves, they know how important your pet’s health care is to you. Below is a photo slideshow and short biography of each of our staff members.

Dr. Joel Nelson

Dr. Joel Nelson is both the owner and a veterinarian at Parkway Animal Hospital. He grew up in a small farming and ranching community in the Texas Panhandle. He obtained his B.S. from Texas A&M University in 1991 and his D.V.M. from Oklahoma State University in 1995. He has two children and Allison and him have been married for 13 years in May 2008. Dr. Nelson practiced at Parkway Animal Hospital for 2 years prior to purchasing it from Dr. Joe Cannon in 1999. Dr. Nelson specializes in small animal and exotic veterinary medicine. He is a member of TVMA, AVMA, TAVP, ACVMA, served on the Grand Prairie Animal Advisory Board. He has a number of pets including: 3 dogs, 4 cats, one hamster and lots of fresh water fish.

Theresa Barefoot

Theresa Barefoot has worked for Parkway since April of 2007. Prior to coming to Parkway she worked for the Dallas S.P.C.A as a veternarnain techncian.She also helped with the care and housing of Hurricane Katrina animals.  She currently has three dogs: a female Great Dane named Daisy Duke, a female labrador retrevior named Shadow and a male cocker spaniel name Tucker.

Dr. Brenda Paduch

Dr. Brenda Paduch has been a small animal veterinarian since 1995. She graduated from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, OK - she is from Muskogee, OK. Her special interests include: internal, critical care and feline medicine. Her husband, Tracy, is a native Dallasite - as is her 12 year old daughter, Hannah. 

They have 4 dogs (2 Shetland Sheepdogs, an American Eskimo and a Sheltie/Chow mix -plus 3 cats: a 22lb Maine Coon, a calico, and a DSH).

Julie Pearce

Julie Pearce has been a veterinary technician at Parkway for a little over 6 months. She started at Parkway as a volunteer in January 1999. She had been a client of Dr. Nelson’s for 1.5 years and loved animals so she started volunteering. In July 1999, Dr. Nelson offered her a position with the clinic. She has really enjoyed learning about the treatment and care of animals. Julie’s degree is a B.S. in Family Life and Human Development from Kansas State University. She was a case manager for abused children for 7 years and then decided she needed a change, so she started working at the clinic. She enjoys traveling, water skiing, scuba diving, hunting, fishing, and K-State football. Her pets include: Lord Winscott (Pug), Dr. J “Doc” (Pug named after Dr. Nelson), Miss Lady Pee Wee (Pug), Barkley (Pomeranian), Joeline (rescued cat), Maggie (rescued cat).

Louise Stone

Louise Stone has been the groomer at the Barking Lot for 20 years. She loves animals and has several dogs and cats of her own. She really enjoys her work and the animals sense her compassion, making them much more calm during the grooming process. Also, the animals get a sense of consistency and stability from having the same person being their groomer time after time. In fact, Louise is known for being able to groom pets that won’t let anyone else handle them. Louise’s pets include a cat named Turkey, a German Sheperd named Bud-Man, and a Rottweiler named Hombre.

Lydia Cabrera-Mata

Lydia Cabrera-Mata began her career with Parkway as a receptionist 3 years ago.  She has held the position of Veterinarian Technician for the last year and is attending Cedar Valley College for this course study.  Lydia is the owner of “Sooner” a male Chihuahua and “Precious” a female terrier mix.

Jessica Witcraft

Jessica Witcraft has been a receptionist here at Parkway since 1998. She loves animals and has 4 pets of her own. Two female chihuahuas Lucy and Pearla, and two chow chows, a male named Chino and A female Pearly. Pearly’s favorite activity is taking a ride on the Tail Wagging Express courtesy of her canine siblings. She grabs their tails with her little needle puppy teeth and hangs on until the “ride” ends. Jessica’s favorite hobby is taking care of her first grandson Isaac.
