Help our Texas animals and be part of the solution for animal overpopulation! The more animals which are spayed and neutered means the fewer animals end up euthanized in shelters. Eventually, this could lead to a lower cost on our taxes for animal control. The sales of these license plates will help generate revenue to subsidize spays and neuters throughout the state. The condition placed by the House Transportation committee is that a $500,000 mark must be reached by September 1, 2001 before the money can be used for the animals. Apparently, the legislature thought that there might not be enough pet enthusiasts in Texas to support the cost of manufacturing the plates. So if the $500,000 mark is not reached, the law will be repealed and the money will go into the general revenue fund. Donations and grants are also accepted to benefit the animal friendly account.

$25 extra a year is not much, less than 7 cents a day. Since you have to have license plates anyway, why not spend the extra $25 and help a good cause? By pitching in and getting your animal friendly plate, you're helping to be part of the solution for pet overpopulation. Shelters and animal control only treat the symptom, not the cause. Let's work on getting these animals spayed and neutered to treat the pet overpopulation problem. This seems to be a much more effective use of our tax dollars than financing new and existing animal control facilities to catch and euthanize the homeless pets.
